Incense is aromatic organic material which releases fragrant smoke when burned. it is used for aesthetic reasons, and in therapy, meditation, and ceremony.

Incense is composed of aromatic plant materials, infused with essential oils. it can be categorized into two main types: “indirect-burning” and “direct-burning”. Indirect-burning incense is not capable of burning on its own, and requires a separate source of heat, for e.g. aromatic oils . Oil diffuser are mostly used for indirect burning. Direct-burning incense is lit directly by a flame and then fanned or blown out, leaving a glowing ember that slowly burns and releases a smoky fragrance, for e.g.  Agarbatti, cone and dhoop.

Agarbatti are an integral part of any Hindu ritual. It creates the perfect setting for an auspicious ritual by filling the air with a pleasant smell. As they release smoke, they also act as organic disinfectants that repel insects.
It has some psychological benefits. The aroma of the incense stick has healing power that has a soothing effect on the mind. The calming effect relaxes the mind and helps in performing rituals with better concentration. Prayer offered with a calm mind acts like a meditation process.

Use of Bamboo in Agarbatti is not permitted because to burn bamboo is strictly prohibited in Hinduism.
